Pittsburgh Museums

Within minutes of the Wyndham Hotel University Place are the Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh. More than 115 years of cultural history and innovation can be found at the four Carnegie venues, including the Carnegie Museums of Art and Natural History, the Andy Warhol Museum and the Carnegie Science Center.

  • In 1895, the world-renowned philanthropist and industrialist, Andrew Carnegie, founded the Carnegie Museum of Art. It is most recognized for its collection of works from the 16th Century to modern American and European Artists. As part of the museum, the Heinz Architectural Center focuses on collections, exhibitions and programs that enhance understanding of the physical environment.
  • The Carnegie Museum of Natural History features explorations into paleontology, ornithology, and the opportunity to learn more about the world we live in. Exhibitions and activities change regularly, so there is always something new to investigate.
  • The Andy Warhol Museum pays tribute to native son and innovator of pop art icon Andy Warhol, a graduate of the Carnegie Institute of Technology (now Carnegie Mellon University). The collection features Warhol's work from his early years, including pieces finished as a child in Carnegie Museum of Art programs. You will also see his famous Pop art masterpieces that include portraits of Marilyn Monroe and Campbell's Soup Cans. Photography and video works by Warhol are also part of the permanent exhibitions.
  • It's hands on science for kids of all ages at the Carnegie Science Center. Take advantage of laser shows, visit a submarine, learn the science of food and investigate green technology-all this and more is among the many exhibits at Carnegie Science Center. Don't forget to stop at roboworldTM, the world's largest permanent robotics exhibition, with one-of-a-kind, hands on experiences.
